Mika Iwasaka (岩坂未佳) is a curator, a contemporary visual arts writer and a film producer currently based in Tokyo. Trained at Rikkyo University in Tokyo and Chelsea Collage of Art and Design in London. Iwasaka specialises in photography, video installations and films. In 2009, Iwasaka was a finalist at the Fifth Curator, which was an international curatorial competition, for an exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, hosted by the British Council.
Iwasaka has contributed articles to a photo magazine, CANDiD.

こちらも編集協力ですが、菅原一剛氏著『写真がもっと好きになる。 写真を観る編。』が3月22日に刊行されます。ほぼ日の連載の書籍化第二弾となります。
アルフレッド・スティーグリッツ、ロバート・キャパ、アンリ・カルティエ・ブレッソン、ウィリアム・エグルストンらとともに、アンドレ・ケルテスやヨゼフ・スデックらをセレクトしているところが絶妙なバランスです。他の写真家による写真も素晴らしいです。管原さんの文章を読むと「写真を観る」ヒントが得られるかもしれません。
マニュエル・リマ著『ビジュアル・コンプレキシティ―情報パターンのマッピング』（久保田晃弘さん監訳、 奥いずみさん翻訳）を微力ながら編集協力としてお手伝いしました。
最近のデータビジュアライゼーションのリファレンスとしてももちろんご利用いただけますが、ジャクソン・ポロックや塩田千春などの近現代作品との「ビジュアル化」の関連付けも興味深い一冊です。ぜひ書店などでお手にとってご覧ください。

I contributed two articles to a photography magazine CANDiD. One is about the story of the Mexican Suitcase and the photographs of Robert Capa in the episode of CANDiD. The other article is written on photographs by Alexandra Catiere, who was born in Minsk, Belarus, currently based in Paris in the Rise of CANDiD. The cover monochrome photographs are Catiere’s works.

Wishing you a joyous holiday season and all the best that the new year can bring. This year’s Chinese Zodizc animal is the Rabbit, so there are many motifs of a rabbit for greeting cards in Japan. This picture is the image from “Chōjū-Jinbutsu-Giga Emaki” (鳥獣人物戯画絵巻).
Save the Arts in the UK
”The arts are a major employer, and they generate far more revenue than they cost to fund. In addition they are a major attraction for tourism in the UK. While cutting arts funding may save money in the short term, in the long run it risks undermining what has been one of the country’s most vibrant areas of growth over the past fifteen years, and destroying one of the national achievements that we should be most proud of.”
